Leger Legends Classified Stakes
The Leger Legends Race is the only British charity race exclusively for former professional jockeys. First run in 2010, it has become one of the most unique and entertaining events in the British racing calendar.
In 2023, the race moved for the first time to the fourth and final day of the St Leger Festival at Doncaster Racecourse, where it featured as the headline race of the day. The move attracted significant national racing media attention and helped boost attendance for the closing day of the festival.
The race remains the centrepiece of the Leger Legends Charity Lunch widely regarded as one of the most entertaining and enjoyable charity racing lunches in the calendar.
The 2025 renewal produced another memorable moment when Shazani (FR), ridden by former professional jockey Gary Bardwell, stormed to victory at odds of 40-1, providing a thrilling result for racegoers and supporters alike.
Proceeds from the event support two important racing charities, including The Injured Jockeys Fund and Jack Berry House, which provide vital care, rehabilitation and support for injured jockeys.
The event now looks ahead to an especially significant year in 2026, when the race will once again take place during the 250th running of the St Leger Festival, marking a historic milestone for the world’s oldest Classic horse race.
